I refer to Steve Bell’s cartoon about the referendum on independence for Scotland (08.02.13). I congratulate Mr.Bell on the clever double message of this cartoon: a) The Scots will be lost without the rest of the U.K.; and b) The rest of the U.K. is sick of the Scots and so they can go and Pleasure themselves vigorously. However, Mr. Bell, as every schoolgirl knows, the breakup of empire is invariably followed by a resurgence of nationalism, in this case Scottish Nationalism . I hope that the Scot Nats will broadcast this example of desperate chauvinism as widely as possible. I am sure that Mr. Bell will appreciate the irony of his work’s role in achieving Scottish Independence.
